Chapter 4

Taylor

How does he do that? I feel like absolute hell, and I look like I’ve been run over by a Mack truck. But, he walks into the room and my heart feels like it’s going to explode out of my chest. I don’t think I can take it. He’s just too much. I can hardly move without every inch of my body hurting, but I still want those full lips pressed against mine. I want to rake my nails through his short, thick hair and then down across the tiny bristles of hair on his jaw line.

That’s it. I’m losing it. I was doing good. I’d finally gotten my feelings for him wrapped up in a neat little package and stored away deep inside. Now, it was busting wide open, and I just couldn’t stop myself. It’s a train wreck waiting to happen. I’m sure he’s just here because he feels sorry for me. Why would he want me like this? On top of that, I know he feels guilty about Ace, and he’s just trying to find some way to make things better. I can’t let myself imagine there’s more to it than that. He made it clear that he didn’t want me like that a long time ago. I just have to accept that and move the hell on.

“You look like you have something on your mind,” Renegade said strutting into the room. He sat in the chair beside my bed and waited for my response.

“You could say that,” I told him bluntly.

“You ready to tell me about what happened?” he asked.

“I don’t really want to get into this with you. I made a mistake, and it bit me in the ass. I won’t make that same mistake again.”

“Gonna need more than that, Taylor. I want to know who did this to you.”

“It’s bad enough that you have to see me like this. I don’t want to go into all the details with you. I’ve had all the embarrassment I can handle today,” I tried to explain.

“There’s nothing for you to be embarrassed about, Taylor. This isn’t your fault, so stop beating yourself up about it,” he said as he gently brushed my hair out of my face. He paused before he said, “So…tell me what happened.”

“Fine!” God, he can be so damn frustrating. I know there’s no point in trying to keep this from him. It’s just gonna piss him off, but I know he’s not going to let it go. ….Shit.

“I’ve been seeing this guy for the past few months. Nothing really serious, but I thought things were going pretty well. He’s a nice guy, and he was good to me. He’s in a motorcycle club in town, and we’ve been hanging out with some of his brothers over the past few weeks. You know, I’ve always loved the DCs, and I missed being around you guys. I thought his club was like yours, but I was wrong.”

“What do you mean?” Renegade asks. He has that serious look on his face. I know he doesn’t like hearing this.

“I started overhearing things when we were at his clubhouse, and it scared me a little. I think they were dealing drugs and stuff, and I didn’t like it. I asked him about it, and he just blew me off. I took that as a bad sign, and I decided that I just needed to get away for a while to clear my head. That’s when I called you.”

“You did the right thing. I’m glad you called me,” Renegade said with a sincere look in his eyes.

“I think he checked my phone after I called you that day. He started asking me all these questions, and he went nuts when I told him I was leaving town for a little while. I just wasn’t expecting him to hurt me like he did. Now, I realize he showed some signs of being a little off. I just didn’t want to believe it. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

“What signs?” Renegade asked.

“Just things I should have picked up on sooner. I should’ve seen this coming. I feel like such an idiot.”

“Tay, you’re being too hard on yourself. What’s the name of his club?”

“They’re called the Red Dragons. I think they have about twenty members, but there may be more.”

“What’s his name?” Renegade asked. The veins in his neck were showing, and I know he’d heard enough. He was getting pissed, and I didn’t want him getting himself killed over all this.
